Is the assumption being made that a non-Muslim will not vote for a Muslim women candidate how so ever good the person may be?

"Despite having a population of around 16 per cent, Muslims have only 5.52% representation in the Parliament."

Despite having a population of 20% of Earth, we as Indians have a share of only 2% of the Income. Are we to blame for not investing in our education and capabilities or is it some devious plan of the "elites". India is a parliamentary democracy and elections are largely free and fair. That some of the finest of sports persons and media stars in India are muslims substancially negates the notion of discrimination. Lets speak of improving our capabilities and support this important step that helps break the male dominated ghettoisation of the under priviledged.

I had always believed "Reservation handicaps a community".

If Muslim leaders are secular enough and if they can be embraced by the majority community then we wont need reservations...

Its better we nurture good and capable leaders in our community who can talk "sense" in Indian Parliament and who are educated enough to understand problems and solutions of general public.

Reservations will only bring tragedy to Muslims..Imagine a constituency with 80% Hindu population and they dont have an option but to vote only for a Muslim candidate...I guess they would then prefer not to vote unless there are some genuine candidates who talk of "People" rather than petty issues...

Lets build our community rather than seeking a easy way out.

Dear Mr Alam,
I do not support the WRB for a variety of reasons but mainly because reservation in the Lok Sabha, to me, smacks of partiality.
Let us take the case of Muslims for instance. You say that Muslims have only 5.5% representation though they represent 20% of the population. So according to you they should be given reservation to make up for this deficiency.
You are saying this on the premise that a Hindu MP cares two hoots for muslims in his constituency.
If that be the case, then in case a Muslim MP comes to power, what about the Hindus and other non-muslims in his /her constituency?
The point that I want to make is that why do you presume that a Non muslim will not look after the interests of a muslim?
I hope I have made my point.
