Thanks, Sharique, for posting this amazing video. Kudos to NDTV for remembering AMU Girls High School on the occasion.

Thanks for posting – would never have seen it as I dont visit NDTV.
It was very heartening to hear of the increased appetite for female education. Amartya Sen will be a very happy man, if he hears this :)

Mohib,
Even though I have never studied in AMU, I still feel nostalgic about the place! May be my blood has it :D

As someone whose female members of the family have studied at the AMU Girls High School , I really appreciated the NDTV program

Although I don’t blame NDTV or the presenter, I did have a problem with the way the burqa was portrayed as something regressive. It wasn’t explicitly stated, but the way certain sentences were framed allowed the viewer to attach certain stereotypes with burqa-wearing folk.

Anyways, I really liked the report and I appreciate NDTV’s efforts. Several of my family members have studied at AMU-GHS and stayed at hostels in Abdullah Hall. I’ve had to stand outside the hall gates (for absoultely non-shady reasons) on more than one occassion; once for even more than an hour. Itna khwaar honay kay baad kam-say-kam aaj pata to chala kay gates kay andar kya hai. :)

Saif,

Playing the devil’s advocate, I’d like to hear why the burqa should not be considered ‘regressive’. Is it progressive or just neutral? I’m curious as to how you view it. Then I’ll add my two cents.

Mahi,

Explaining my views on the subject would involve a lot of detail. So I’ll be taking my time to respond to your queries. :)

If you want to post your views in the meanwhile, you’re most welcome to do so.
