Indian Muslims Blog wishes all its readers a very spiritual and blessed month of Ramadan. Ramadan 2008 starts either on 1st or 2nd of September throughout the world with millions of Muslims abstaining from food and drink from dawn till dusk for a month. Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islamic faith with the other four being shahadat (proclaimation of one’s faith), namaaz (prayers), hajj (once in a life obligatory pilgrimage for those who can afford it) and zakaat (giving 2.5% of surplus wealth to the poor and needy).

Assalam-o-Alaikum. Ramdhan Mubarak to all of you. I just got the news that in India fasting will start from Tuesday 2-Sept. where as in KSA it will be the 2nd ramdhan. i.e. this year it is a difference of only one day. lets see what happens at the time of eid’s moon sighting?

Dear friends,

Ramjan Mubarak to all. One of the pillars of Islamic faith as mentioned above is “zakat”. I urge all the brothers and sisters to donate to the flood affected victims of Bihar funds from their planned zakat contributions. This is one of the most urgent tragedies affecting us all in India and we must do something; whatever is possible at our end.

The contributions can be made to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund / Prime Minister’s Relief funds or any NGOs involved in the relief and rehabilitation.

Ramadan is the month that the devil is kept in chains.

It is also the month of the Nuzul al Quran. Along with the Quran, many bounties of God also descended.

May all of us be blessed through this.

Kaatib September 2, 2008 at 10:39 am

I wish all the countryman a good and eventful Ramazan. Please observe the fasts and work on the lines which are for common cause of the people. One of my Hindu friend was very furious today because in our large pan-India organisation, he observed that what we did for Bhuj earthquake and the Tsunami, we are yet to organise anything for the victims of the Kosi flood tragedy. Is it because it is in Bihar. If you say yes, I feel ashamed of you. If you say no, are you waiting for something similar to happen in your locality. I call upon all, especially Muslims to join hands by donating wholeheartedly without waiting the calculation of Zakaat or thinking of Fitr. You are promised to get it back 70 times in afterlife. If you think fighting for justice is Jihad, this too is Jihad and JihadE Akbar at that. This human tragedy is unfortunately a God sent opportunity for all of us.
Indian Muslims, please arrange or let us know how to contribute for these needy compatriots. We need to press all our Air Force, Navy and Army choppers as well as other available so that the rescue efforts gather pace. I request all our brothers in Bengal, Jharkhand and UP to rush there as it will take time to arrange the logistics from here in south.

May Allah show His mercy on all of us. We are fully dependent on His will and pray that He show His ‘Kareemi’ and Sattaari’ on us.

Dear Kaatib,

Appreciate your thoughts. Just one thing, “You are promised to get it back 70 times in afterlife.” seems like a motive or a carrot to do good. Can we do good without a motive?

yaseen September 3, 2008 at 10:51 am

Kafir:
Kaatib was only mentioning the virtues of doing good. We don’t expect anything from you or others, but from god and his blessings.
Looks like you always want to find faults….
Is muslims don’t do charity, even then they are blamed, even if they do so they are blamed again….

Muslim September 3, 2008 at 11:31 am

Kafir,

Is there a prob if he does with a motive?

Milind Kher September 3, 2008 at 9:22 pm

There are two different kinds of motivation thru which people often do good.

1 > One is to earn sawab

2 > The other is for the Raza of God. (Good grace of God)

With some individuals, goodness is perforned for its own sake

kafir#01 September 4, 2008 at 7:02 am

Yaseen,

You are just being defensive and evasive and perhaps going on a tangent.
Remember Kaibir’s couplet which roughly goes like “Dukh mein sumiran sab kare, sukh mein kare na koye. Jo sukh mein bhi sumiran kare to dukh kahe ko hoye”. Point is that “calculation/motive/rewards” are things of a mind and not of the heart. My comment will be equally valid to a Hindu who goes to Tirupati and makes a big donation to get something in return. Hope that “balances” things out and makes you happy!

Muslim,

Graduate to reasoning things out(which may be a luxury for you) than indulge in mere polemics.
