Observations on Gujarat

In my short life as a journalist I have made lot of friends and one of those friends is Lucknow based Hindi journalist Nasiruddin Haider Khan. He writes truthfully on what he observes and feels. Recently he was in Gujarat before the polls and wrote four articles about what he observed there.

Below are links to the articles in Hindi, worth reading for two reasons: we tend to think that anything worthwhile can only be written in English, there is lot of quality material available in other Indian languages; secondly, it provides an insight into Gujarati minds and society just before the polls.

1. Is it the end of Modi’s innings?: Modi’s masks were ubiquitous in this Gujarat election but can that be the face of a cadre based party?

2. Who is a Gujarati?: When Narendra Modi talks about 5 crore Gujaratis that does not necessarily mean that all living in Gujarat.

3. Gandhi’s talisman and vibrant Gujarat: Gandhi’s talisman talks about the weakest person in the society. How do the weakest fair in vibrant Gujarat.

4. Masculine vibrant Gujarat and women: Gujarat has failed to take care of half of its population i.e. women. Horrible sex ratio, sexual and domestic violence make life difficult for a female before and after birth.
