Tis the fatwa season and we Kazis, muftis are charging overtime. Even before the last fatwa goes on the wire and outta the presses, a new one pops up from nowhere. You gotta give them some love, these freshly minted Muslim brothers who keep on egging and prodding the moulvis with leading questions. This one’s brought to you by the good guys (sometimes also referred as pseudos). And since it’s pretty difficult to get photographs of such events I just sketched out one myself.

A ‘fatwa’ against terrorists attacking places of worship
A leading 400-year-old Islamic seminary, the Darul-Ifta Firangai Mahal on Monday issued a ‘fatwa’ against terrorists targeting places of worship and killing innocent people.
The Lucknow based institution issued the fatwa on an application moved by local businessman Sajid Umar, who had sought Firangi Mahal’s verdict on the issue.
According to Firangi Mahal chief Maulana Khalid Rasheed , who was also the Imam of Lucknow’s Idgah, “Sajid Umar wanted to know what Islam had to say about those people who were attacking places of worship and killing innocent people in cold blood.”
The Maulana ruled, “There was absolutely no room for terrorism in Islam and murder of one innocent person amounted to murder of entire humanity.”
…..While emphasising that, “Islam has always laid stress on peace and harmony,” the Maulana’s fatwa added, “If any Muslim causes harm to any place of worship of indulges in killing of innocent people, Islam would regard it as the worst possible crime and the Shariat would consider it absolutely unlawful.”[link]
For a 400 year old leading seminary, I’ve never heard of this place. But as long as it’s anti-anti I am cool.
Elsewhere, Sani Mirza is all set to team up with Israel’s Shahar Peer. I am waiting for some Noor Mohammed from Hyderabad to get all worked up about Islam’s position on the same.

PS: Please welcome your joker in the pack from Austin. The name is Kazi, KamiKazi.
Firangi Mahal is a very prominent seminary in Lucknow . As far as I recall the famous Dars a Nizami syllabus of Madrassas was formulated by Mulla Nizamuddin (RA) from Firangi Mahal.
firangi mahal was a prominent institution of North India for hundred of years. As far as I know it has closed down. I am not sure if dar-ul-ifta is still there.
Thanks Guys for adding some gyaan. I wonder, if there is some history/reason behind naming it Firangi Mahal? Anything to do with our British forefathers?
Anyways as I said, despite it being slightly vacuous, in times such as these it’s pretty harmless. Next time someone throws a rabid idiotic violent fatwa on me, I can always throw this their way.
(but seriously speaking, this whole fatwa thing is getting out of hand. Every other Mohd, Ahmed and GulamRasool is the peg for dial-a-fatwa articles. People, we need standardisation. Someone should setup an All India Muslim Fatwa Committee, and since it would no doubt be a bit patriarchal, there should be an Al India Muslim Women’s Fatwa Committe, and then one for Shias..and some. Now, that’ll be something
)
Actually, they have a pretty decent website. Here is a little history of the locality, http://www.firangi-mahal.com/History/history.htm

If you do not know it does not exist??!! but you did have the grace to welcome the information when provided.
This is the problem with our generation of Muslims we do know a little bit about how to survive in the so called modern world(we are not doing too well there too). Our knowledge about our country our community is next to nil.
Still we keep your nose in the air sneering.
If we dont like the Moulvis then you can study Islam. Do an appropriate study course in Islamic Jurispendence and become a Moulvi and save the community. But it is much easier to turn your nose up in the air and sneer, I agree with that. Also it is lot of fun.
