What the hell ? Since WHEN has Holi become a "Hindu" festival ? Rather , since when has Holi become Haraam in Islam ? Maybe it is Makrooh , but till this day not a single Alim has issued any FATWA saying Holi is Harasam or Makrooh....Can you show me any Ayat in any Surah of the Quran which says playing Holy displeases Allah swt. ? No. For that matter , is there ANY Hadith relating to this ?

Prof.M. Nyamathullah

It is a very good effort that you are trying to find a common ground between two religions, but in the process you have completed twisted facts. It is good to create bridge between two communities but doing it by twisting facts doesn't help in long term.

Few facts

1) There is no concept of prophet hood in hinduism. The idea that a just and merciful god chooses and one person over other without any special virtues doesn't go down to hindus easily. Ram and krishna were never considered prophets, ( Not once). They were incarnations of god themselves and not messengers ( You can get the message clearly if you read bhgavad geeta, where krishna says that I am that supreme being. Not in a single place he said that he was messenger).

2) There is no comparison between Adam and shiva. Adam was created by god, but there is no description of shiva being created by God to start the the human race in the world. Shiva is considered a supreme power himself and he was never send to world to trigger the human civilization. on the other hand if you see he is destroyer god.

3) Again Vishnu was a supreme being himself and not prophet. How does a comparison of supreme being with messenger of god stands logical.

4) Last prophet ( Mohammed) is not mentioned in Hindu scriptures. It is wishful thinking of Dr zakir naik, But alas it is not true.

If we really want to understand the common ground then we have to understand the facts as they are, Not by changing them according to our convenience. This will widen the gap rather than filling it.

Anyone paid attention to Rakhi? I don't consider it a "Hindu" festival, but to my knowledge, Rakhi in it's current form is in part linked to the Mughal Emperor Humayun.

Also... I said something similar here, but a million rabid fundamentalists lurk in those forums...

It is really heartening to know that the gala Holi festival was fully patronised by the Mughal emperors , not as a festival of Hindu citizens only but as a composite feast of colours and goodwill of two princpal communities.
Popular Muslim emperors and myriad Muslim saints in India have been responsible for ensuring amity and mutual trust and goodwill between Hindus and Muslimsfor nearly a thousand years!
The cunning British only was squarel, a dip in which was presumed toy responsible for the cleavage between the two communities.
Latest research findings show that the presence ofl earliest man could be traced to Himachal Pradesh! That is adam was sent down to Himalayas and Eve to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia! The unending flow of remorseful tears of Adam became the sacred Himalayan rivers , a dip in which was deemed sufficient to atone one's sins!
Adam has been depicted as Shiva , with slight modifications : tiger skin robe in lieu of garments of leaves, long beard has been replaced by fine-tuned
moustache and his staff by a trishul! The later depicts aprominent "W",if separated from the holder("I"). If they are placed as "WI", they are akin to ALLAH in Arabic!
We Muslims believe that God has raised nearly 1,24,000 prophets all over the globe to guide mankind. Thus, shree Ram of Ayodhya and Lod Krishna of Dwaraka too might have ben the "pophets" subsequently deified by their bhaktas!
It is further stated that there was a big flood during the time of Vishnu, who is now identified as Prophet Nuh(Noah of Ark fame). The oldest Vedas might have been the scriptures revealed prior to and subsequent to the floods!
Jesus is said to have come to Kashmir and Tibet. And the coming of the last Prophet is mentioned in kalki purana
Thusw, Hindus and Muslims in india are close kins separated by the mischievous propaganda of vested interests. We have lived with bonds ofmutual love and trust for long centuries. The machinations of vested interests only have set as apart for an interval of two centuries!
Time has come to realize that once again we have to live, aid one another and die as inseparable brothers1

Found the below news item http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/2888705.cms

(Pasting the text of the same below)

" La ilaha ki bharke pichkari khwaja piya ne mukh pe mari,
Shyam ki mai to gai bal bal haari,
kaisa hai piya subhaan-allah..."
"Holi khelen padh ke bismillah
la-ilaha-illallah ..."
(Filling the pichkari with the name of God, our Khwaja sprayed it on my face, I went berserk over Shyam, this is how my beloved is; Subhaan-allah,
Let us play Holi by taking the name of God)

AHMEDABAD: These couplets inscribed on the walls of the shrine of Abdul Samad Rehmatullah in Bhadra area of the city, are a clear example of the Sufis' efforts to build harmonious culture in India.

Legend has it that Chishti Abdul Samad came down to Ahmedabad as an officer of Mughal army when Aurangzeb was the governor of this province in 17th century and settled in the city. Caretakers of this mosque are extremely protective of this writing on the wall.

The other instances of communal harmony is the qawwalis sung at Shah-e-Alam and Sarkhez rozas which say: " Khelo re khelo chishtio khelo re holi, Aaj sabir piya ke ghar rang hai ..." These famous lines of Aamir Khusro are still sung at these places.

Recently, the Supreme Court took note of "a growing tendency of intolerance in the country", and in a judgment on the issue of closure of abattoirs in Ahmedabad during a Jain penance period, the court said that Muslim brethren should co-operate with Jains and empathise with their religious feelings.

To justify the order to shut slaughter houses, the apex court remembered an anecdote of Wajid Ali Shah, the Nawab of Awadh. In a particular year, Holi and Muharram coincidentally fell on the same day. The Hindus of Lucknow decided that they would not celebrate Holi that year out of respect for the sentiments for their Muslim brethren, for Muharram is an occasion for mourning. When Nawab joined the Tazia procession, he inquired why Holi was not being celebrated. He was told about the decision of the Hindus.
On hearing this, the Nawab declared that since Hindus respected the sentiments of their Muslim brothers, it is also the duty of the Muslims to respect the sentiments of their Hindu brethren.

He announced that Holi would be celebrated the same day and he himself was the first who started playing Holi on that day and thereafter everyone in Lucknow, including the Muslims, played Holi, although it was Muharram.

"It is this kind of tolerance which alone can keep our country united," the Supreme Court observed in its judgment.
