Engineering/MBA/MCA Muslim Seats Lying Vacant In S India

In AP, Karnataka and Tamilnadu, Muslims have established hundreds of educational institutions including professional colleges. There are 3 medical colleges in AP, 40 engineering colleges and 100 MBA/MCA colleges run by muslims. The fees is fixed by govt at Rs 26 -30000 for Engineering, MBA, MCA p.a.

The tragedy is there are less muslim students than the available seats.

The reason being, out of 2 lakh odd students who complete X standard, Muslims are less than 10%. By the stage of XII they are further reduced. In AP there is an Entrance test for admission to professional course after XII. Only 6000 students qualify when there are 8000 available seats.

Though the colleges are set up with economic motive, AICTE and Medical Council has ensured that minimum standard of education is maintained. In view of surplus seats available in non muslim colleges also, these seats are lying vacant.

So many colleges have unfilled seats and some colleges are selling these seats to non muslims at a premium. 5% seats are reserved for non local colleges.

If Muslims from North India come for education to Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai, these precious community resources can be optimised.

Informative post, Razi sahab. It may prove valuable for students.

  2. Mohib says:

You have raised a very important point that qualified students are not available for higher degree courses. One of the reasons may be that students can’t afford to study due to financial constraints. Another issue may be that many Muslim students can’t actually reach up to the qualifying level because they drop out earlier.

    A O A

All seats remain vacant it means they are not qualified for those seats. Lets accept this fact. And these seats should be awarded to other general category student which can be benifitted.
And about North indian muslims, AP state has anounced this facility for AP muslims only. So it will be very unfair to share those seats north indians. Higher priority should be given to AP students if college is from AP

That is being racist :) So you mean to say that let the seats go waste but you don’t want intrusion from the North Indians? Why should the seats be left vacant then the bright minds from North India can compete for them?

  5. Harsha says:

Sharique, among the muslim-minority collges in AP,only 2-3 are really good. Most of the seats that are lying vacant are in colleges where the standards are very poor.Anybody coming to study in these colleges from any place are virtually killing their career.

  6. Ejaz says:

    Razi,
I would be curious to know more details about the colleges where these seats are vacant. If the problem is Rs 25-30,000 per student fees money, there are many who could help those Muslim studnets get over that and make them be able to study professional degrees. We also need to see if the colleges are worth it. If I sponsor a Muslim Student to study engineering degree, I need to make sure that the education is fine and that the student will be able to practice engineering.

I do not think that muslims from North India will be able to take benefit of these seats. They are unable to take advantage of professional courses seats at Aligarh Muslim University, which has 50% seats reserved for its feeder minority schools (though it is not a religion based reservation since anyone can get admission in these feeder minotity schools). If you look at these feeder schools, proportion of minority and non-minority students is roughly 1:1 for Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology schools. For other schools, it is almost entirely muslim. However, in graduate Engineering and Medical schools, muslims are in minority even at AMU. In fact, these are the only two schools at AMU where muslims are in minority.

Actually this is due to lack of information about such colleges to a student who have just passed out the essential qualification for these courses. There should be a councelling site which may provide information of the courses offered by different institutions.

Welcome Colleges.. something is better than “nothing”, so the effort is commendable… we salute it.

However this is synonymous with watering the leaves… therefore the tree looks green for a few moments/ minutes. It then becomes life-less again. Reason : Its roots are dying… while one may water the leaves… and temporarily give the impression that the tree is blooming; fact of the matter is that the tree is dying.

People set up Engg / Medica/ MCA-MBA colleges., cuz they can break-even and cover the investment / costs in 7 to 10 years time. But., to improve the health of the tree… the roots must be watered ! There are no short-cuts. Grassroot level work is needed.. To clear the ground..

It takes 200 High Schools to FEED a university.. Muslims DO NOT have Quality High Schools.. and that is the reason.. for this situation. WHile we commend the establishment of the Engg / Medical Colleges .. we would still need QUALITY students… who have sound schooling… otherwise the full benefits would not accrue. It is still growth.. but partial.

QUALITY High Schools… set up by Muslims… and run by them.. is the grass-root level work.. That must be taken up… in missionary zeal. Talk will not help. Sweat and blood are needed now.

Salaam. u hav told that If Muslims from North India come for education to Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai, these precious community resources can be optimised. but it is not possible because the as per south indian state govt rules all other state candidates have no rights to ask their community preference. for example in tamil nadu muslim eng colleges counselling the kerala muslims can participate as only othere [ oc ]

  16. Dr Sk Masud Hossain says:

Muslims are educationally, socially and economically backward claas. all educated muslims should raise up above to politics for the development of the community. It is our responsibility. young genrations in muslims are indulge in antisocial activities, etc. proper duidence by the learned man is essential right now othrwise this society will be in dark in fututre.

  17. satwa gunam says:

    Hi

Hope these seats are given to any meritorous candidate than wasteing the infrastructure.

  18. Ram says:

    Sharique and ansari,

You guys have no clue on rules for state minority colleges or just like to give holier than thou attitude?
It is not racist to exclude hindus but racist to exculde north indians?

  19. saddam hussain says:
