What the dumbs want us to believe is exactly that, but let me remind you that if we follow the path shown by the Prophet and his companions, we will never fear losing the bond we can have not only with human being but even animals. I did experienced it when I was in college and I once had a buffalo( for a pet). It used to recognise me if I happened to pass by and used to follow us walking faster on the way home. I had to pursuade it to go home many times, if it found us walking away in opposite direction. Used to make noises expecting me to feed or milch. I still remember, we used to respond very negative to the mishandling of puppies during our early childhood. They used to be in abundance those days.
Certainly we have crystalised thoughts and fixed mentality, but it does not interfere in my 'human' thinking. If you say, how harsh I sound on many of my responses on IM, its due to disgust I feel due to injustice. Mind it, its not sectarian or communal, but purely humanitarian. May be I hate self, many a time.

Dear Abhay,

Thanks! Your wishes are mine as well. Good to know you too come from both lucknow and Aligarh. You can email me at abidi_inam@yahoo.com.

Dear Mr Naqqad,

Yeah! Sadly today the trust between the two communities is at the lowest. But, that doesn't stop me from taking my father's legacy to the next generation. We have to start somewhere!

A touching story. and if we search our past, all have one or two AN Singhs. 25 years back we always have Mamoons' and Chachas', bahen and bhai, friends of parents. The presssure of the so called integration, we stressed on Khan-Kumari or otherway families which decimated the bond forming and its at it nadir now. Interestingly I have a colleague, who though senior made a sister out of my wife, and never misses to call us during Ramazan and on Eids. An strict vegetarian, he used to be a reluctant but forcefully invited guest on Iftars, all days of the Month and the siwai-yaan and sheer-khurma used to be glue. He still tastes these things after 5 years, what else is being human. Long live this tribe!

Thanks Adnan, Amit and Zartab for your kind words.

Strange thought it may seem, it's always both easy and difficult to write about your loved ones who are no more.

What a nostalgic account Inam.

People like your Uncle AN Singh are the true torch bearers of brotherhood and Togetherness.

May his soul rest in peace
